Clay Gingerbread Houses

This lesson is one that I got from a fellow art teacher at my school.

Learning Targets:
Students will create a functional gingerbread house using a slab method on hand building.  Students will be able to create a free standing gingerbread house.  Students will demonstrate how to connect clay pieces using scoring and slip.  Students will imitate textures and forms that they find in candies and confections.  The student will become more aware of the firing process.  The student will improve their understanding of design and creating texture.

The students had a lot of fun creating these projects.  We created them fast so that they would be ready for the Holidays.
